Packing them in
Good packaging protects flowers during transit from distant countries, ensuring they arrive at the florist’s shop in good condition with the minimum of damage. Thanks to the packaging methods now used by growers and exporters, flowers always arrive at the florist in peak condition. Many flowers are now aqua packed, or wet packed, for transport. This is an excellent method, as the stem ends do not dry out and instead have a constant supply of water and flower preservative.
Most spray carnations are now sold in buckets enclosed by a box to keep them upright. For many years, orchids have had test tubes with a small reservoir of water attached to stem ends, and freesias are often supplied with a wad of damp absorbent paper attached. These methods ensure that flowers delivered Beckenham reach the florist in optimal condition.
Picking the right flower for the occasion
Lilies, roses and orchids are great romantic gift ideas, but there are many others out there that can also add that special spark. A daisy is a simple statement for love. They come in white or yellow and have a yellow center. A gardenia is a white flower with dark green leaves. Lilacs are great flowers to send someone. They have stalks with many white or lavender flowers.
No matter which flower delivery Kingston you ultimately decide to send, you’re bound to leave a lasting impression and get into those good books. Flowers are a common symbol for love and can express the deepest emotions of your relationship. Hopefully, by sending a special flower bouquet, your love will stand the test of time!
Getting the scale right
Scale, in floristry, is the relationships in size between flowers and flowers, flowers and foliage, and both of these and containers. Good scale is achieved when the relationships between all these components are pleasing. Scale and proportion are inter- linked, and sometimes there is confusion between the two. The relationship of individual flowers to each other and the container is scale; the balance between the flower materials and the container is proportion.
It is vital for any florist Watson to recognize the importance of scale and proportion in design work. Whatever flowers or foliage are used, they must be in scale with each other, and the proportional balance between the arrangement and the container must also be correct. A design to be worn or carried must be in proportion to the person for whom it is made, and the flowers must also be in scale with the size of the design.
Floral design balance
The Society of Floristry definition states that balance is ‘the use of floral materials, foliage and colour so as to achieve both an actual and visual effect of structural strength and stability’. As this implies, there are two kinds of balance — actual and visual. Size graduation and the grouping of materials will achieve actual balance, with graduation and the grouping of colours added to achieve visual balance.
Actual balance
This is acquired by technical skill or getting the mechanics right. The arrangement should stand upright and not fall over backwards, forwards or sideways. It should be steady and sit comfortably. If a wedding bouquet is balanced, it should sit on the hand without being held. This means that it will be very comfortable to carry, and the bride will not have to worry about it tipping out of her hand. In the same manner, a corsage should sit flat when worn, or a handbag spray may sit on a handbag. This requires an even weight distribution, but not always a balance between equal numbers of flowers — two smaller flowers Merivale will counterbalance one large one.

Is your local florist really local?
With hundreds and maybe thousands of flower delivery companies on the web, you many be hesitant to choose just one. Local flower delivery seems like the obvious choice to most people. But, some florists online may not always be who they say they are. These "order collectors" will process your flower order to a local florist for almost half the price that you paid. While being untruthful and confusing, they also like to grab some of your extra money left over. Always make sure you are dealing with a real reseller of flowers
Indooroopilly or a floral company in your area. Look at where their physical address is located. Send an e-mail if you are unsure. Checking into their information can save you a lot of money in the long run as non-local florists generally charge more to cover their commission.
Men like flowers too!
Ask your florist online for more information and ideas for delivering and sending flowers to men. Remember to discreetly check that your man will not be too embarrassed before you send flowers Kensington. You don't want to upset him by making him feel small in front of his workmates. Good luck, I hope he likes them!
Cake and Table Decorations
Delicate fresh flower and foliage, with pretty ribbons, daintily arranged, make a charming cake-top decoration for various occasions, including anniversaries and engagements and, of course, weddings.
The wedding cake is an important feature of the reception, but if placed in front of the bride and groom it can hide them from their guests. Suggest that the cake has a place of honour on a separate table, to be decorated by you. This will create interest and provide a centrepiece for the cutting of the cake.
Always ask the bride for details of the cake, as today’s cakes are very individual, and there are innumerable styles and sizes. Some cakes may take the form of initials or hearts, but traditional cakes are either round or square, with one, two, three or more tiers, supported on pillars. The current trend is for perspex or steel stands, which suspend the cakes on various levels. Knowing the cake's details will ensure your flower delivery Coonawarra goes without a hitch.
The traditional container was a silver vase, though sometimes a wine glass was used instead, but hiding the foam used to be a problem. Now the foam can simply be surrounded with crumpled strips of cellophane which, when filled with flowers, looks like crushed ice. Specially-designed foam bump on a plastic base provides an excellent foundation, making assembly quick and easy.
Get well soon
Flowers can convey a sense of deeply felt empathy so they make the perfect gift to let someone know your thinking of them. Ultimately what flowers you choose will come down to a personal decision but you should bare in mind the nature of the gift. If someone is just feeling a little unwell maybe some bright uplifting flowers will be most appropriate to lift the spirits. If the recipient is terminally ill or seriously unwell then maybe a more serene, delicate approach is called for from your Southland Florist. Choosing the right floral arrangement to send will require a little thought, but whatever you choose will be sure to lift the spirits of someone who is not feeling at their best.
Feeding and repotting Orchids
Most orchids benefit from a specialist orchid fertilizer that is fed as a weak solution and applied once a week. To do this, use only half the amount mentioned on the packet. The type of fertilizer will depend on what your orchid is growing in, so it is wise to check that first.
Sooner or later, unfortunately, the orchid is going to need repotting. Remove the old mix from the pot, being careful not to damage the roots. Rinse the roots and trim off any hollow or mushy ones, as they are considered dead. Place the plant into a new pot, orchids apparently like being root-bound, so there should only be about 1' between the roots and the edge of the pot. Add the new mix/medium to the pot, tapping the sides to make sure it settles properly. Press gently to settle the plant but don't use too much force or the roots may break. Use a stick to support the plant in the pot so it is secure. If your plant is growing in sphagnum moss, make sure it is damp before wrapping it round the roots and repotting, that way you don't have to worry about pockets of air. After repotting, the plant should not be watered for 3 - 5 days to allow it to recover. A flower delivery Manawatu-Wanganui from your local florist should have some instructions on how to do this correctly.
